Mayor unveils 'boxes' to curb panhandling

Mayor Greg Ballard this morning introduced a plan to curb panhandling through installing donation boxes downtown. Ballard hopes kind-hearted people will put donations in the boxes, which look similar to parking meters, instead of giving directly to the panhandlers. The money will be given to groups that help the homeless. The program is based on models used in cities including Dallas, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Asheville, N.C.

What is your opinion about panhandlers, especially in downtown Indy?  We want to hear from you!!
