Out of the Wreckage
You can never prepare for a tornado, either mentally or physically. One minute, you're going about your normal routine, and the next, your roof is getting ripped off by dangerous winds. Instantaneously your life is changed. What a devastating night for folks around Indianapolis who have nothing left and were scared for their lives, and yet how lucky we are that more serious injuries were not reported.
In reading some of the coverage of the tornado & damaging storms from last weekend, several pieces jumped out at me:
Car keys: Residents whose cars were not damaged still couldn't get their cars out without car keys, most of which are still in the damaged apartments.
Something you don't think about: I read that one newly homeless victim was able to get his asthma medicine refilled already through the Red Cross.
This was only a minor tornado according to classification. What would our city look like if it had been worse?
How you can help: American Red Cross is taking donations for the now homeless victims. Check out
