Homeless and Safety
Have you stopped to think about the safety of being homeless? In fact, our homeless neighbors are often the victims of crime. Let's analyze this: what objective is a crime against a homeless person achieving? Clearly it is not to steal valuables or money. The only answer is further dehumanization of someone who doesn't deserve it (and who does?).
So on that note, did anyone see the story about the man found badly burned and beaten in Fountain Square? His name is Tommy Young, and to hear the account, he was somewhat of an icon in the neighborhood. He kept to himself and didn't hurt anyone. And now he's in Wishard being treated for 3rd degree burns and several fractures. What a very sad commentary on our culture. This is clearly a visual of another good reason not to let people, our neighbors, live on the streets. It just isn't safe.
