Two Foundation Grant Recipients Affected by Flood

We have confirmed that two of our grant recipients were affected by the flooding of the last two weeks. Desert Rose, located in Martinsville, has had to shut its doors while repairs can be made. Every room was affected, and the entire building needs new carpet, doors, baseboards, and cabinets.  All residents were evacuated safely and the organization has already submitted its loss records to FEMA. They know that they will exceed their insurance coverage of $30,000.

We also received the following news from Christian Help in Johnson County:

Dear CHI Supporters:

I pray that all of you are doing well and that none of you were effected by the flood.  We, however, were flooded.  On Saturday morning our house filled with two feet of water.  We were in the middle of a raging river with logs, mulch and fish rushing through the house.  We lost everything and we had no flood insurance.  However, we had a team of volunteers on Sunday afternoon to help us clean out.  We have had volunteers there every day this week.  Our furniture is gone and the walls are all torn out from the home.  A friend is loaning us a camper to sleep in.  However, I know that there are many who have lost everything who have no resources.  The response from our community and the churches has been awesome.

As you can imagine, we have had much to do and Christian Help has been somewhat neglected.  Our Angie Freeman has offered to help manage CHI while I am out of commission and she is doing a very good job.  We also lost three homes in Friendly Village and she has been helping those people.  I am very proud of our residents as they have formed a community and are helping each other.  Angie has been helping with this as well.

I know that God is going to work many miracles through this disaster.  It is these times that we are reminded to love one another and people do.  We have been very grateful recipients of this.  Many people will be needing much and if everyone just gives a little there will be enough to go around.  God always gives us enough and disasters remind us to share.  It is truely a blessing in a disguise.

Please keep us and all the other flood victims in your prayers.

God bless all of you.                                                     Pam Leffler
