Domestic violence story sounds familiar

I don't pretend to be an expert on domestic violence issues. However, the Foundation does provide support to four domestic violence shelters, and they've been educating all of us since our relationship began with Sheltering Wings five years ago. So I wasn't surprised when I saw the article in this morning's Indianapolis Star which recounted a recurring theme among victims: repeated reports of incidents, none of which brought a sentence or conviction to the abuser, and sadly, a fatal end for a young woman this week. Often women in such relationships are threatened not to go to the authorities and afraid to act. Even when reports are filed, victims often deny the abuse. In such a complex issue, there are many answers, and none of them are easy to fulfill. What a tragedy for this young woman and her family.
