The Un-Lunch Hour
Yesterday in downtown Indianapolis, concerned citizens contributed to the Interfaith Hunger Initiative's call to action: the Un-Lunch Hour. Although I write about homelessness all the time, it is easy to forget that there are thousands of kids with and without homes who are hungry every day. Check out this picture from the event:
What a powerful statement about an issue that can be hard to see on a daily basis. A full article can be found at http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008810170473 and the picture gallery is on the right side.
Meanwhile, at the Foundation, we announced next year's grant total of $90,000 to area organizations last night. It is good to know we are doing what we can to solve this problem, but we know there is so much more to do. Last night I referenced Mother Teresa's acceptance speech when she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize....because she did everything in her life in the name of the hungry, the naked, the homeless, and everyone else who does not have a voice. These two very different points are good for our focus as we continue on the path to 'seek solutions for the homeless.'
