A range of emotions

As often happens this time of year, I have experienced a range of emotions in only a few short days. This week I lost someone very special in my life. I called her "Grandma" but she wasn't actually related to me by blood. She and her husband were a dynamic husband-wife real estate team in southern Florida where I grew up, and they inspired me to want to be a REALTOR® too. But what she also did was welcome me as a part of her family and teach me what philanthropy really meant, which is why I'm so involved now in charities like KW Cares and the Foundation. You might have read Jayne Gauci's piece in the latest Steps to Shelter about how she didn't have a role model of philanthropy in her life. I didn't even recognize that as a blessing in my life until I heard Jayne's story. (if you didn't see Jayne's article, here's the link: http://www.mibor.com/realtorfoundation/steps/Dec_08.html)

And we have meanwhile presented seven of our grant recipients with their checks. At a few of them last week, we were honored to hear from current residents about their experiences. Hearing those stories in person will really blow you away. We go there with money, so the grant recipients thank us, but just like Jayne, I usually end up thanking them for doing the work they're doing and enriching my life.
