What does homelessness mean to you?

I admit it, as much as I know that homelessness encompasses a wide range of people, the first thing I think of when I hear ‘homelessness’ is the man who used to hang out behind my building downtown. And yet, when the Foundation does its annual grant review, we find so many more folks who are part of this word. What other terms can we use? “Housing challenged”? “The many faces of the homeless”? In short, we need a way to describe the full range of people who need our help – even at the board level we struggle with this. We’re open to your comments and thoughts! What we want you to know is this: homelessness means much more to us than the street homeless, who often choose to live that way.
